The most used words about tailoring are - made to measure and bespoke.
Made to measure is a step up from ready to wear. We take a standard pattern, take the person's measurements and adapt the pattern to those measurements. It is modified from a base pattern. There are plenty of designs to be chosen from which requires essential 12 measurements to achieve the final look.
Whereas bespoke is a term derived from "bespeak" which means to speak for something. Bespoke is a customized process where one individual can decide exactly what they want. Bespoke caters every contour and every specifications of the wearer's body. A true bespoke garment has no limitations on design and customizations.
In made to measure a basic pattern is created for a particular size and modifications are done according to the preference of the clients whereas in bespoke a new pattern is created for each individual wearer.
Generally no fittings are taken in made to measure during the creation process. According to the measurements or client's preferences the final fitting is done whereas bespoke required multiple fittings.
